REVIEW: Kaabil

REVIEW: Kaabil

Director:  Sanjay Gupta
Writers:   Sanjay Masoom (dialogue), Vijay Kumar Mishra
Stars:       Hrithik Roshan, Yami Gautam, Ronit Roy and more.

THE STORY:

Supriya Bhatnagar (Yami Gautam) a blind girl is raped and she commits suicide, Rohan Bhatnagar (Hrithik Roshan) Supriya's husband who is also blind is seeking revenge.

GOOD:

It wouldn't be wrong to say the Hrithik and Ronit Roy are the main good things about Kaabil. After Mohinjo Daro Hrithik had to give something to prove that he is in fact still the Hrithik we all fell in love with and he did just that with Kaabil. Playing a blind man is not an easy job and I was worried to be honest since it is Bollywood after all, but Hrithik proved me wrong, he has played the blind man with absolute near perfection. There are scenes where I nearly cried because I felt for a blind man, like the scene where Hrithik is knocking on the door while crying and he says "Darwaza Kholo bhai", I was speechless, that's how good that scene was.
Ronit Roy was amazing in his negative role as expected. To know if a baddie in any movie has done a good job you need to measure the extent to which he makes you hate him, the more you hate him the better he is, and I absolutely hated Ronit Roy and for me, that means he was great in his act.

Yami Gautam was pretty good in her act but her act didn't test her that much and that's why she seems just okay in the movie. Her chemistry with Hrithik was amazing, they both had a spark going on in the entire movie and I enjoyed it.

A few twists were really good in the movie, like the twist of her suicide which happened after the 2nd rape, and also the twist of her 2nd rape itself was pretty shocking.

In a couple of scenes there was a subtle message about how today's society is actually more blind than an actual blind person, like that scene where Hrithik's friend is on the phone and he is about to fall from the building but Hrithik (A blind man) saves his life or the scene where Hrithik tells the police officer that there is more darkness in your law and order than our lives.

BAD:

They started the movie with a very good plot but when Hrithik goes to tell the police officer that he would do something about it that's where they messed things up, after that revelation they went on making it like a "vigilante thriller" but I felt like they could have made it a very brilliant movie if they hadn't made him reveal that he was about to do something.

Realism was missing in parts of the movie, for example, How can a loving husband his wife alone and go to work after she has just been raped? that's not the only time, there are a lot of times when you feel like "They could have done a better job".

The biggest problem I had with the movie was that they shoved in the love story in the first half and then they felt like they don't have enough time to show us the love story so they decided to just fast forward through it and then in the second half they ended having not enough time for the actual revenge. I felt like they should have avoided the love story and should have just shown us that he is trying to revenge his wife, that way we could have seen how he actually does what he does, how he plans for it, how he trains himself (climbing a few stairs is not training) and stuff like that.

Songs were not required at all in this intense thriller, especially the item number had no place in the movie. maybe just the song "teri aadat hogayi hai" was a song that sort of fitted in.

THE FINAL WORD:

If you are a die hard Hrithik Fan then you would love Kaabil, as he is brilliant in the movie. but the movie is avoidable otherwise, if you have other options go see that one,you can watch Kaabil when it comes out on DVD.

REVIEW: Moana

REVIEW: Moana

Directors:  Ron Clements, Don Hall and more
Writers:   Jared Bush (screenplay), Ron Clements (story by) and more
Stars:      Auli'i Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Rachel House and more

THE STORY:

A heart of the mother island, stolen by a demigod needs to be restored to it;s place in order to save the world from dying and the daughter of the Chief of an island sets out to complete that task but first, she needs to find the demigod.

GOOD:

  • Moana has some enjoyable comedy that actually makes you laugh. be at the silly dancing of a kid in the island or Dwayne Johnsn's witty jokes as the demigod Maui or the Chief's daughter when she is a baby you will laugh during the movie.
  • The message of goodness and the emotions related to that, which you will find in every Disney movie works here too.
  • A really good movie for kids.

BAD:

  • Every time I watch a Disney fairytale the one thing I always have a problem with is the songs after a certain time. I believe they should avoid the songs or maybe just keep to like one song for a movie. Now that's just my opinion some people might actually like it and considering it's a movie for kids I might be very wrong.
  • Okay, so the chief daughter is chosen by the sea to carry out the task and she can ask the ocean to pretty much do anything she wants, yet she needs to sail across the ocean to find the demigod and then the mother island when she could have been taken by the ocean easily. And not to mention the evil Villain who will die if touched by water could have been defeated or at least controlled by the "ocean" without any trouble.

THE FINAL WORD:

When you read this review please keep in mind that it is a movie for kids, after all, I recommend you take your kids to the movie they will love it. And for adults, please avoid it if you have no kids with you.

REVIEW: Raees

REVIEW: Raees

Directed by:
Rahul Dholakia
Writing Credits:
Rahul Dholakia
Harit Mehta
Niraj Shukla
Ashish Vashi

Stars:
Shah Rukh Khan,
Nawazuddin Siddiqui
Mahira Khan
Zeeshan Ayyub

The Story:

A war between a bootlegger (Shahrukh Khan) selling Alcohol in a state of India which is considered to be a dry state and a police officer (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) who has sworn to stop him no matter where he is. The bootlegger has a great business mind and a warrior's courage and a golden heart whereas the police officer is extremely good at his job and is extremely honest. set in the 80s it's a crime drama that will take you on an amazing ride.

GOOD:

  • Shahrukh khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are the gems in the movie. Shahrukh khan as the bootlegger is the heart of the movie. he is at his best. Especially when he is angry, he takes his act to a whole new level when he is angry. There is a scene where he kills his boss, a guy he has shared all his crime journey with and to towards he is very loyal and right before shooting him he has tears in his eyes and thinks about all the times they have shared, that scene will make you wanna cry with Shahrukh khan. Another scene where he gets angry with his wife and later rest his head in her lap and tells her while crying that he is tired, it will melt you down. The action scenes are fantastic. Nawaz as the tough and honest police officer is amazing, he carries out the part effortlessly and with his style of humorous touch. I should mention Zeeshan Ayyub as the side hero was extremely good too, his humor when he himself is serious is awesome.
  • I was expecting a happy ending to the movie considering the fact that it is a Bollywood movie but was surprised and extremely impressed with the climax of the movie. Both  Nawaz and Shahrukh did an awesome job at the scene.
  • If I was to rate the music album of Raees I would probably say that only a couple of songs were good, but after watching the movie I must say the music album so synced and right with every scene and everything happening in the movie that I ended up loving all the songs.
  • A bootlegger with a golden heart was a very enjoyable concept. And Shahrukh khan acted it out so well that you feel for him despite he being the bad guy (technically). there is a scene where Shahrukh khan has to return money to the people of his town and when he returns the money he himself is still at a loss but he is so happy for the people and you would actually feel his happiness and that is the how great the part is acted out.

BAD:

  • There is a chase scene between Shahrukh khan and a bad guy where Shahrukh is seen free running on rooftops and through windows, Although I loved the scene very much, I also felt that they could have done a better job with the vfx and with the whole scene. Maybe,  they shouldn't have used Vfx at all, It would have been an even better scene without vfx, they just had to avoid a few things in it, that's it.

THE FINAL WORD:

Raees is one of Shahrukh khan's best performance in his career. It's a must watch for fans and non-fans alike. do watch it.

REVIEW: Split

REVIEW: Split

Director:   M. Night Shyamalan
Writer:      M. Night Shyamalan
Stars:        James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Haley Lu Richardson & more.

A story of three girls who got kidnapped by a psycho with multiple-personality disorder, who has twenty-three different personalities in his head. the girls have the only hope of one of those personalities saving them.

RATING:

GOOD: 85%
BAD: 15%

GOOD:

  • Just like I mentioned in this movie's trailer analysis, James McAvoy was fantastic in this movie. he is the one who carries the movie through the good parts and the bad. The way he acts out the different personalities is spotless. The main girl in the movie, Anya Taylor-Joy, was stunning in her character.
  • All the great acting in this movie was only possible because of M. Night Shyamalan's great directing. Bravo! man. welcome back to your old form.
  • This movie is creepy, and yes that is a plus point because we were all counting on it to be creepy.

BAD:

  • The only thing I didn't like was the pace of the movie, it was so slow I felt like sleeping. But in all fairness, it was expected from a Shyamalan movie.
  • A lot of people will agree with me about the flashbacks in the movie. The movie would have been even better than it was if it had stayed in the present.

THE FINAL WORD:

Definitely, watch it. it's not for everyone I agree but if you liked Shyamalan's old movies then you would love this one, I surely did.

REVIEW: Hacksaw Ridge

REVIEW: Hacksaw Ridge

Director:    Mel Gibson
Writers:     Robert Schenkkan (screenplay), Andrew Knight (screenplay)
Stars:         Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Vince Vaughn and more

"The Sixth commandment, Thou shalt not kill" that's the moral concept what hacksaw ridge is based on. A true story of an American soldier who goes to war but refuses to pick up arms and saves the lives of many soldiers without it.

RATING:

GOOD: 80%BAD: 20%

GOOD:

  • First and foremost I loved the message and the concept of the movie. it;s against killing even when at war, it gives a message of peace and in today's crazy world we could use thinking like that.
  • Andrew Garfield did a stunning job. his act of "The believer" is truly spectacular. The movie gives a powerful message and without Andrew Garfield's convincing performance it would not have touched you where it's supposed to.
  • I loved a few specific scenes, they just broke my heart, that's how good they were. like the scene where a few of Garfield's fellow soldiers beat him up because he refuses to pick up arms. or When Garfield cries because his fellows are all shot, and asks God "what do you want from me?"
  • The visuals of the movie are breathtaking, the head shots during the battles. or the exploding people all over, or if you look at the battles in general. it's been filmed spectacularly.
BAD:

  • I know it's based on a true story and I am not denying the authenticity of the story. but when you watch the movie you feel like they have taken a little too many cinematic liberties. some of the scenes or events just don't seem right, your mind doesn't agree with it.
THE FINAL WORD:

This movie is a must watch. I really enjoyed it and I am sure you guys will too. just don't think about the cinematic liberties too much.

REVIEW: Sleepless

REVIEW: Sleepless

Directed by:              Baran bo Odar (directed by)
Writing Credits:       Andrea Berloff (screenplay)
Frédéric Jardin (based on the film "Nuit blanche" written by) (as                                                                                       Frederic Jardin) &
Nicolas Saada (based on the film "Nuit blanche" written by) &
Olivier Douyère (based on the film "Nuit blanche" written by) (as Olivier                                                                          Douyere)
Stars:                        Jamie Foxx, Michelle Monaghan, Dermot Mulroney | and more.

GOOD:

  • Jamie Foxx was really good in his character as the corrupt cop who is trying to find his son.
  • A couple of fight scenes were really enjoyable.
BAD:

  • The biggest flaw Sleepless has is the lack of commitment, I mean the at times the movie seems like a thriller, sometimes it's a pure action movie, the movie just doesn't tell you what is it that it's trying to show.
  • At times you feel like the movie should have been called "Mindless" because you have to tell your mind to shut up. because at times the movie just doesn't make sense at all.
THE FINAL WORD:

Avoid this one guys! I know we are going through a rough spell. Hopefully, it will end soon. but this one is definitely a waste.

ROCKSTAR - AN IMTIAZ ALI FILM

ROCKSTAR - AN IMTIAZ ALI FILM

In 2011 a movie was released called "Rockstar" the lead actor Ranbir Kapoor was a relatively non-famous star and the lead actress Nargis Fakhri was a debutant. yet the movie went on to become the most critically acclaimed movie of the year. although it wasn't as big a hit at the box office as it deserved, it was still loved by critics and audience alike, and it is still one of my all time favorites.
The question that comes to mind is, if it was such a good movie and loved by everyone why was it not a box office blockbuster? well, the answer that I think is right is this: everything about the movie, The story, the dialogues, the direction, the lyrics, the acting, the whole theme, the music (especially the music) worked like a slow poison, it took it's time in working on its audience. But that's not what we will be talking about in this article, I want to talk about why after almost 6 years this movie is still one of my all-time favorites, not just mine but surely one of the all-time favorites of hundreds and thousands of people like me.

THE MUSIC:

For me the soul of the movie was it's music. I am writing this article in 2017 but I still love the music.
The music was composed by non-other than the maestro A.R Rehman. and he had delivered with this album what was expected of him, i-e sheer genius. even today if anyone has doubts about Rehman and his genius, they should listen to Rockstar's album. not just a particular song but the entire album.
On top of that Irshad Kamil's poetry and Mohit Chauhan's soulful voice has added to the music even further. Bravo! to all of them.

One of my most favorite songs from the movie:

THE STORY:

The Story was the backbone of Rockstar. It was unconventional yet relatable. It wasn't our typical Bollywood love story, but a story of passion and Obsession. It wasn't just a love story between a Boy and a Girl but rather the philosophy of what we so desperately want and what we get.

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN A BROKEN HEART AND ART:

This might sound a little over the top but it makes perfect sense once you think about it. Imtiaz Ali had again used a philosophical approach to spreading his message of the connection between a broken heart and art. The following dialogue sums up the connection marvelously:

"TUTEY HUE DIL SE HI SANGEET NIKALTA HAI"

which can be translated as:

"MUSIC COMES OUT ONLY OF A BROKEN HEART"

and for me, this connection was one of the most important and well-delivered messages of Rockstar.

IMTIAZ ALI's DIRECTION AND PHILOSOPHY:

Imtiaz Ali is known and loved for his philosophical approach to movies. Rockstar, in my opinion, was the best of his philosophical dramas. The philosophy of Rockstar is based on the Philosophy of Rumi,

                               Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing
and right doing there is a field.
                                       I’ll meet you there.

Rockstar is loosely based on the above quote (philosophy) of Rumi.
And Imtiaz has done a marvelous job in directing the movie according to that philosophy. and that was one of the factors that drove me to love Rockstar so much.

THE DIALOGUES:

Rockstar has some of the best dialogues of Bollywood, for example:

"MERA DIL NAHI TUTNA CHAHIE KHATANA BHAI, MERE PAS AUR KUCH NAHI HAI"

roughly translated as:

"I DON"T HAVE ANYTHING ELSE BUT THE HEART, IT SHOULD NOT BE BROKEN."

Ranbir says this just before the end when he realizes that everything he was trying to achieve, for which he wanted his heart to broken, he doesn't want it, but his heart should not be broken. there are many more dialogues that add to the charm and beauty of ROCKSTAR.

One of my favorite dialogues:

RANBIR KAPOOR's PERFORMANCE:

Last but not at all the least, Ranbir Kapoor's Acting in Rockstar was at a whole new level. he was convincing as the rude and broken artist, who was rough on the outside and burning on the inside. Rockstar truly was a career changing movie for Ranbir.

Have you guys seen Rockstar? if not, do watch it you will love it, and do let me know.

OK Jaanu - Movie Review

OK Jaanu - Movie Review

Director:  Shaad Ali
Writers:   Mani Ratnam (story and screenplay), Gulzar (dialogue)
Stars:       Aditya Roy Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah and more.

A romantic comedy about two young adults who are in a live-in relationship and who never wants to get married. but will it work out like that or not, that is the story.

RATING:

Good: 44%
Bad:  56%

GOOD:

  • Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor share a great chemistry as expected. The way the two stars have portrayed falling in love and the beginning of a new relationship is excellent and surely relatable of young adults The two were seen together in Aashiqui 2 and were loved by everyone.
  • I am not a very big fan of Shraddha Kapoor but I must admit she looks stunning throughout the movie.
  • The performance of both the lead actors and Naseeruddin shah was excellent.
  • The first lovemaking scene (Yes I said it) and the whole build up for the scene was captivating. it will surely make your heart beat a little faster and make you smile, possibly even giggle. plus the background music with the whole scene really sets the mode.
  • Last but not at all the least, A.R Rahman sir's music. I gotta be honest, the music album didn't impress me when it released, except for two songs Inna sona and The Humma song which I loved. but when I heard the music with the specific scenes it really amazed me, the music truly compliments every scene of the movie.
BAD:

  • The movie is based on a very cliched theme that we have seen many times and both Hollywood and Bollywood, i-e A young couple who wants to be in a relationship with no strings attached because at least one of them have parents who are separated, but they end up falling in love, or in the case of OK Jaanu, getting married.
  • I didn't like the ending. just like the theme, the ending was also cliched. I think they could have given it a much better ending, maybe they could have separated them and made them choose their career while still being in love, which, let's face it, would have been much more realistic. not every story needs a happy ending.
  • if they had avoided the whole cliched ending there would have been no need to shove in unnecessary families. Both Aditya Roy Kapoor's and Shraddha Kapoor's characters are shown to be very independent in the movie, I think their family interference was unnecessary. the reason I say that this was because of the ending is because I feel like the families were only introduced so that they can be at the wedding.
THEFINAL WORD:

If you like to be critical about movies and use your brain about movies a lot then avoid it, otherwise it's a fun one-time watch. I had fun watching it.

Director: Stacy Title
Writers:  Jonathan Penner (screenplay), Robert Damon Schneck (based on "The Bridge to Body                          Island" by)
Stars:      Douglas Smith, Lucien Laviscount, Cressida Bonas & more.

The Bye Bye Man is a spirit that will attack you or anyone who talks about him. That's what the movie is about.

GOOD:

  • I honestly loved the part of the flashbacks, I wish the movie would have stayed there.
BAD:

  • So far it's the slowest movie of the year. the premise is unfolded at a snail's pace. honestly, how long does it take to tell the audience that The Bye Bye Man is a spirit that will come for you if you talk about him?
  • This movie has some of the worst acting imaginable.
  • A horror movie is supposed to scare you, and this movie didn't do that at all. for the first half I was waiting for literally anything to happen.
THE FINAL WORD:

Okay, guys! listen to me very carefully, never ever watch this movie. not even on DVD.

A Monster Calls - Movie Review

Director: J.A. Bayona

Writers:   Patrick Ness ... (screenplay)

Patrick Ness ... (based on the novel written by)

Siobhan Dowd ... (from an original idea by)
Stars:     Lewis MacDougall, Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, Liam Neeson | and more

The movie revolves around a kid with a disturbed life especially because of his mother with a terminal disease, who looks for help from a tree monster to cope with his troubles.

GOOD:

  • What I loved about the movie were the stories that the tree (played by Liam Neeson) tells. In his own way, the tree is trying to teach the kid how to deal with life and it really works.
  • Lewis MacDougall the lead actor although a kid is really amazing in his character. I was worried about "a kid" playing the lead role but the movie proved me wrong. another great performance was by Felicity jones, she is so good she would break your heart with her acting.
BAD:

  • I guess I should warn you that it's a little too dark for kids under 13 years of age. other than that I didn't find anything that could be termed as bad.

THE FINAL WORD:

Don't take kids under 13 years with you, but definitely, watch this movie. I enjoyed it and I am sure so would you.

Underworld: Blood Wars - Movie Review

Director: Anna Foerster
Writers: Cory Goodman   (screenplay)

               Cory Goodman    (story by)
Kevin Grevioux  (based on characters created by) and
Len Wiseman    (based on characters created by) &
Danny McBride  (based on characters created by)
Stars: Kate Beckinsale, Theo James, Tobias Menzies

GOOD:

  • The action of the movie is really cool. actually cooler than what I had expected.
  • I think "Underworld: Blood wars" is better than the previous movies of the franchise but that is because the previous movies were not really any good.

BAD:

  • Like I said the action is cool enough but that is not enough. Nowadays we get so many action movies and being Hollywood they usually have great action and that's why great action is no longer considered a reason for a great movie. and sadly Underworld: blood wars fails to give us anything good other than action.
  • To watch this movie you have to assume that everyone in the world is a vampire. because surprisingly no one knows that there is a war going on. I personally found that really annoying and strange.
  • You have to be familiar with the previous movies because if you are not then it will be really hard for you to catch up. and if you are familiar with the previous movies and you didn't like it then you will be watching the same thing you didn't really like before.
  • Personally, I think they should have stopped after the first underworld movie, we have had about enough of remakes and reboots and sequels.

THE FINAL WORD:

  • Avoid it guys. seriously don't waste your time. I didn't enjoy the movie at all and I watch the bad movies so you don't have to. :-)

Jagga Jasoos | The Official Trailer | Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif

Jagga Jasoos | The Official Trailer | Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif

The much-awaited trailer of the much-awaited movie Jagga Jasoos starring Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, was dropped on the internet a couple of weeks ago. I just had a chance to see it and decided to tell you guys a few things about the trailer or rather to tell you why Jagga Jasoos looks like a great movie from the trailer.

RANBIR KAPOOR'S ACTING:

Ranbir Kapoor has proved himself time and again and I am sure we have no doubt about his acting skills. the trailer which has a feel of Ranbir's last movie Burfee, promises Ranbir at his best and for me that is the top reason to await the movie greatly.

RANBIR & KATRINA's CHEMISTRY:

Ranbir and Katrina have great chemistry, we have seen them together in movies like Raajneeti and Ajab Prem Ki ghazab kahani. the nerdy Katrina looks great with the goofy Ranbir in the trailer. especially in the scene where Ranbir is trying to kiss Katrina.

ANURAG BASU's DIRECTION:

Anurag Basu is a great director of this age, he has proved it again and again, especially with Barfee also starring Ranbir Kapoor. and now that the duo is back together we can expect great things.

A TYPICAL DISNEY FAIRYTALE:

Who doesn't love a Disney fairytale? with the environment and the animals running around and the beautiful sceneries, we can expect a great Disney fairytale.

PRITAM's MUSIC:

Recently Pritam has given nothing but great music for the movies like Dilwale and the Ae dil hai mushkil. If you remember a contributing factor to the greatness of  Ranbir starer Anurag's barfee was also Pritam's music. all these factors suggest great chances for Jagga Jasoos.

FINAL WORD:

Although not much can be said based on this trailer alone as it doesn't give away the movie's plot or story or what to expect in that aspect. I think it's safe to say that we can expect a great spy thriller, with lots and lots of mysteries. I am looking forward to it.

PASSENGERS - MOVIE REVIEW

PASSENGERS - MOVIE REVIEW

DIRECTOR: Morten Tyldum
WRITERS: Jon Spaihts
STARS: Jennifer Lawrance, Chris Pratt and more.

Starting off I am going with a 2.5 stars, keep in mind the extra 0.5 is just because if Jenniffer Lawrance's presence not her acting or performance but just because she was in it and she is so good to look at.

GOOD:
  • Jennifer Lawrance did a very good job in the movie but what I would say carried the movie was Chris Pratt's performance, He was absolutely brilliant.

BAD:
  • I personally think that the only reason Jennifer Lawrance was in this movie was because they wanted it to be a box office success. I am not saying that Jennifer was bad in the movie, she did her part gracefully but Passengers could have been a good movie even without her, to be honest, I enjoyed the first part where Chris Pratt's character is living in isolation more than when Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrance have their romance going on.
  • The movie has nothing new, almost everything is what we have seen before.
  • The movie also feels slow at times, you can't help but feel that they could have done it a lot faster. or some moments where you feel that they could have done something better.

FINAL WORD:

I would say don't watch it if you have a better alternative. wait for it till it comes out on DVD and watch it then.

LA LA LAND, REVIEW

 LA LA LAND, REVIEW

Director: Damien Chazelle
Writers:  Damien Chazelle
Stars:  Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Rosemarie DeWitt and more.

GOOD:
  • La La Land is a reminder that Hollywood musicals used to be this great. musicals in recent times have tried but never really impressed, La La Land succeeds in that department.
  • The flow of the movie is amazingly good when the song and dance start it doesn't feel out of flow or out of place.
  • A romantic musical would be doomed if the leading stars had no chemistry between them luckily Ryan Gosling and Emma stone has great chemistry.

FINAL WORD:

I am Going with a 5/5 Stars for this movie.

Being in love with Whiplash, the last movie Damien Chazelle directed before La La Land I was extremely excited for La La Land, and I have to say it hasn't disappointed me, I really enjoyed the movie, it was well acted, well directed and full of fun, I suggest you guys do watch it.
